aside from the wonderful beaches, the region boasts some of rio's most spectacular views, due to its elevated location and mountainous landscape rising from the ocean.

grumari beach itself is one of the more unexplored areas in rio and looks like a completely deserted strip of pristine paradise when viewed from the hilltops. many visitors take a pair of binoculars in case any rare species of bird makes itself known -it is also enjoyable viewing the coast of rio to the north east, especially by dusk and nightfall.
