at the lower end of the beach there is a path leading through some rugged coastal shrub lying between the mountains and the sea -from here there are some fine sights such as morro da ilha, much of barra de tijuca, and the uninhabited ilha das palmas and ilha das pecas.

a small number of fishermen also live just off the path. they go about their daily business of catching fresh fish for the restaurants in the area.
