via subway, the cristo redentor can easily be reached by exiting at thelargo do machado station, and continuing via one of the connecting metrôrio buses located at the exit. once at the christ, access to the actual statue is only possible via the local train. 

furthermore, there are minibuses leaving  from estrada da paineiras, and getting all the way to the statue -  however, the minibus departing station is only reachable via car, or long walk.
