flamengo beach is enclosed by land on both sides, and as a result has extremely calm waters, almost like a lake - the sand is white, clean, and dotted with food vendors.   despite flamengo beach's calm waters, this beach is not always recommended for swimming, due to high levels of pollutions of the guanabara bay's water.
