the region is also one of the least populated areas in the city, due to a large part of grumari being made up of shoreline and a protected environmental zone, much of which is surrounded by the guaratiba and piabas mountains.

grumari is an area well known for its brilliant beaches and pure white sands, but aside from the wonderful shores, the region boasts some of rio's most spectacular views, due to its elevated location and mountainous landscape rising from the ocean. grumari beach itself is one of the more unexplored areas in rio and looks like a completely deserted strip of pristine paradise when viewed from the hilltops.
