the result of this extraordinary locale was finally opened to the public in 1965 as the brigadier eduardo gomes park. in the northern extremity, near the airport, it is possible to find the museum of modern art - the mam.

a little further away there's another important landmark, the monument to the fallen soldiers of world war ii.   located on Avenida Infante Dom Henrique, 75 - Glória, the monument can be seen on this page by wikimapia, and an webpage detailing current and past events for the memorial can be accessed here.

this general area also includes the large glória's marina, which shelters several private vessels. moving southward there's a huge green area flanked on one side by the wide flamengo beach, build with the embankment and one of the favorite places of the local population.
