at a glance

due to the vast size of the park, it can be accessed via many different areas of the city. the park is located in the west zone of rio, with the bangu and realengo neighborhoods to the north, to the west the guaratiba neighborhood, and to the south barra da tijuca and recreio, all offering visitors a unique journey into the park.

the name 'pedra branca' translates to 'white stone', and was so named due to the large rocks at the peak of the mountain, which have become white in color from the excretions of vultures, for which it is a popular landing spot.

it was finally established as a park, and as an area of environmental conservation in 1974, after years of regeneration in the area. the park is one of the most bio diverse areas of the region, with an incredible array of natural flora and fauna. arrow-back     arrow-forward
