the buses display the sign 'niterói/charitas' and are operated by the two companies auto viação 1001 and braso lisboa, both lines follow an identical route - detailed bus itineraries for the two bus lines can be seen here and here. 

once in  niterói the bus lines reaching different parts of town where the hills are located depart from the bus terminal located at avenida visconde rio branco, called terminal rodoviário joão goulart, just next to the ferry-boat terminal in praça araribóia (araribóia square).

the ferry terminal connects via boats niterói do rio de janeiro's praça xv, and provides a great alternative to reaching niterói via land.
