once in  niterói the bus lines reaching different parts of town where the hills are located depart from the bus terminal located at avenida visconde rio branco, called terminal rodoviário joão goulart, just next to the ferry-boat terminal in praça araribóia (araribóia square).

the ferry terminal connects via boats niterói do rio de janeiro's praça xv, and provides a great alternative to reaching niterói via land.

once at niterói's bus terminal, bus line 38 can be taken to itacoatiara,  the area where the pedra do elefante is located.

from rio's zona sul, a taxi ride to this part of niteróitakes about 90 minutes and costs approximately 130 reals.
