once at the top, visitors get spectacular 360 degree views of rio's coastline and the surrounding mountains - hikers can also get to the mountain through the tijuca forest, which is home to a variety of waterfalls, the tijuca lagoon and many rare species of plants and animals.

the area where the forest thrives today, was once covered by coffee plantations, before it was reforested in the 19th century by major manuel gomes archer, in order to protect rio's water supply - it is a local pride and joy and pedra bonita is only one of its many natural delights within it.
