this area is easily accessed by the via dutra and as such is the site of the majority of tourism in the park.

it is also where the visitor's center is located, working to maintain the park at its best for the last 70 or so years of its existence.  

there visitors can access a museum with basic information about the flora and fauna in the region, as well as stuffed animals, and various texts.

the park is home to a number of rare and native species that are under study and protection.
