as one the last refuges of various flora and fauna, there is plenty to see. the fauna to be found include the primate species mico-estrela, the gamba, or possums, tatu, a native mammal species roughly the size of a cat, gaviao carijo, a bird species, coruja, a native owl, and sanhaco, anu branco and anu preto, special birds native to rio. these are just a handful of the endandered species native to the region.

in terms of flora, visitors will find embauba, guatambu and paineira among the vegetaion in the park and preservation of this delicate ecosystem is of utmost priority to park authorities.
