all of the approximately 12.4 hectares of land surrounding the pedra branca (white rock) in the west zone of rio de janeiro makes up the parque estadual da pedra branca (white rock state park). the park constitutes the largest urban forest in the world, and includes parts of seventeen neighborhoods - among them jacarepaguá, taquara, camorim, campo grande, guaratiba, senador vasconcelos, grumari, and recreio dos bandeirantes, among others.

the highest point of the park is the peak of the white granite rock known as pico da pedra branca, which rises to over a thousand meters in altitude. it is located in the division between the neighborhoods of jacarepaguá and campo grande, and grants a stunning vista of a number of neighborhoods in proximity.
