the mission of the park is to protect and conserve the ecosystems living within it, ensuring the preservation of the rare, vulnerable, endemic and endangered species of the area, whilst hoping to recover degraded areas, and enable the connectivity of the surrounding forest regions, in addition to contributing to the sustainable development of the area, by providing opportunities for visitation, recreation, education, research, relaxation, and sustainable employment.

with 95% native atlantic forestcover, of which 99% is in good condition, the park is certainly an area that warrants preserving, with much of the forest unexplored, making it invaluable for scientific research.

within the dense forestry of the park, many important species of flora and fauna can be found, with expectations that further species may be found in the undiscovered areas. some of the popular species in the park include, various species of orchids and bromeliads, the spider monkey, otter, peccary, and the tegu lizard.
