at a glance

the path to the waterfall is dotted with various native flora, including rosewood, cedar, and jacaranda trees, as well as tropical vegetation, and yellow and purple ipe trees. the over 300 year old jequitiba tree is also to be found in this region. visitors may also be lucky enough to see some tropical birds flitting around, in addition to the native animal species.

along the way there are also stonewall ruins left behind by the ancient aqueducts, that were used to transport water to the plantations in the area during colonial times. also of note, the park houses the dams of camorim and pau da fome, the chapel of são goncalo do amarante, and what is known as the highest peak in the city - at 1024 meters in altitude, the famed rock is called pico da pedra branca in portuguese. arrow-back     arrow-forward
