reggae first started to be seen in brazil in the 1970s in the city of são luís, maranhão. during the military dictatorships of the late 1960s to mid 1980s, concerts and radios were banned, so the only music that was available was stations from the caribbean playing reggae. from there it was natural to spread to the bigger cities and take root in rio de janeiro. here is a list of establishment one can go to listen to reggae on a wednesday. |
