at a glance | it has been the chosen style of some of the biggest artists in the country, including, gilberto gil and marisa monte, seeing as it was the second musical wave after bossa nova. whilst the genre, which has become so popular today, can vaguely be traced back to the 1960s, the roots of the music go much deeper, to colonial times - it was between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, that different musical styles began to blend and mix in brazil, most notably the african beats, which had been brought by the slaves, the religious sounds of that time, and the classical european music, which had been brought by the portuguese. |
