at a glance
with the city's musical roots dowsed in the emotive sounds of samba, it is no surprise that various subgenres of samba have been born in rio de janeiro - pagode is one such genre, which blends neglected traditions of early samba, with modified instrumentation and modern sounds.

part of the transition from traditional samba to pagode was the incorporation of three additional instruments, the banjo, tan-tan, and the repique de măo. which changed the percussion sounds of the genre, and gave it a more modern feel.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
