many sportspeople come to this beach, and easily meet other surfers or international travelers learning how to surf. in fact, in addition to the frequent surfing competitions held here, the local surf schools are perfect to both experiment a new sport, and get know other travelers. the entrance to the small park garota de ipanema is only a few meters away from the beach. at this park, many concerts and musical events are held throughout the year, and being cariocas very friendly, this becomes a great beach to meet locals hanging by kiosks outside the park and facing the beach.
