at a glance

the cultural impact of the samba schools in the daily life of the inhabitants of rio de janeiro is immense - not surprisingly, several initiatives were created to bring this experience to the children of the diverse neighborhoods of the city.

among these initiatives, the 'escolas de samba mirim' ('children samba schools') had their origins in rio de janeiro back in the 1980s.

unlike the major samba schools, with their large organics, budgets, and involvement in heated championships, the main reason for these smaller organizations is presenting a fun cultural activity for children to develop during their free time. arrow-back      arrow-forward
