democritus lartigau seabra, the son of important brazilian merchants, wanted to give his wife a special present - the most beautiful house in rio de janeiro, so a french architect was contracted to build the house and all of its fixtures were brought from france.

in addition to hosting cultural and art exhibits, the center hosts events to celebrate local and national holidays, decorating the entire house and inviting the public to come and view it.

plays and social events are held at the center - the house also features a new restaurant, paris, opened in july 2012 - one of the most romantic and popular spots for an elegant dinner or celebration.
