at a glance

in the age of ever-present digital cameras, and cell-phones, visitors should ensure that they do not simply gaze at residents through a lens - this is why it is requested that visitors do not take direct photos of residents, or the interior of their homes.

the guides are great bridges in communication, translating street signs, or conversations with the locals - guides should be consulted and utilized as much possible since they have valuable knowledge and insight about favela culture and its role in the city.

it can also be a nice gesture to make a donation of some sort, either by purchasing something from a craftsman, vendors, or making a contribution to the crèches, schools, and social projects that abound in the communities, but it is by no means enforced and should only be done spontaneously at the visitor's will.  arrow-back     arrow-forward
