at a glance | piece of monetary advice while staying in the marvelous city is not to take too much money or too many valuables to the beach. in general, it is not advised to even walk around with these things unless completely necessary. money and valuables should always be guarded, and never left lying around or out on display. a tip in brazil is known as a 'gorjeta', and has its own set of etiquette rules. in restaurants 10 percent is usually included at the end of the bill, known as 'serviço'. the serviço is usually paid, unless there has been particularly bad service, whilst no more is expected. in bars and nightclubs it is also customary to tip ten percent for table service or for a tab, while in hotels, a small tip is normally expected if the bellhop takes luggage to the rooms, or for a good job done by the chamber maid. taxis run on a meter, unless special or radio taxis, and the bill is usually rounded up to the nearest real, to avoid using coins. | phones | |||
