In 1974 the Uni IBMR was founded and it begun its story of rise, In 2010, it was listed as an international-level center, which puts it side-by-side with some of the best institutions in the world.

It now has 3 nucleus (Botafogo, Catete and Barra de Tijuca) where students can pick from 24 pre graduate, 15 post graduate options and 4 practical courses, which are part of the PRONATEC program, which allows anyone with a high school degree to apply for a scholarship.
