First founded on Ilha do Governador in 1989, Grupo Espírita Irmăo Demétrius, GEID is an organization dedicated to the spiritual and material assistance of those who are struggling economically and socially.
Since 1996, they have also run a child daycare centre and they have a social welfare department, called GEIDAS, providing clothes, medicine, food and information to people in the community.
