born in rio de janeiro in 1979, marilia garcia is a poet, professor, translator, and editor. in 2001 she published encontro às cegas (encounter the blind), followed in 2007 by engano geográfico (geographic deception) and 20 poemas para o seu walkman, or 20 poems for your walkman.

this third book gained her public recognition and the 2008 portugal telecom prize - garcia studied writing at the state university of rio de janeiro, where she defended a dissertation velocidades e vozes, or velocities and voices, about the haroldo de campos book, galáxias.
