The creation of the Redes de Desenvolvimento da Maré, is the result of a long process of involvement of its founders with the community movement in the favelas of Maré specifically and  in the rest of the city  more broadly.

Actions and research were developed along a path marked by organizations in the fields of social policies, guided by the common interest of working in an integrated and comprehensive manner, with themes related to city ​​of Rio de Janeiro and, more specifically, to its communities in need.

Redes de Desenvolvimento da Maré was created with a mission to promote the construction of a Territorial Development network by linking different social actors committed to the structural transformation of Maré, and to produce knowledge and actions against all forms of violence. 

the institution seeks to develop projects within themes such as education, art and culture, social mobilization, public safety, local development, communication, combating violence in its various manifestations, and generate jobs and income.
