As well as external re-structuring the program will implement Retrofitting, which deals with the internal structure of homes. The number and quality of windows, waterproofing and electrical and sanitary fittings will all be addressed, improving the lives of residents and reducing energy consumption. 

Interventions in favelas across the city have included improvements to sewage systems and the provision of trash collection services, running water and improved access to transport facilities.

All of these efforts at urban development are underpinned by the concept of sustainability in that they improve the quality of life of inhabitants and empower them in their day to day working lives.

Much of the manual labor is conducted by people living within the communities, which allows locals to generate income from urbanization, thereby feeding capital back into the local community.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
