generally speaking, cariocas are genuinely welcoming, friendly, outgoing, and happy people - they are also humorous, musically inclined, and have an enviable ability to 'live in the moment'.  the open arms of the christ statue are truly symbolic of the cariocas' famous hospitality.

while we recognize that generalizations are problematic it is fair to say that the one thing that nearly all cariocas have in common is their love for rio de janeiro - across cultures, ethnicities, and ages, all cariocas love their city and make no secret of it.

hundreds of poems and songs have been written about rio by its native and adopted inhabitants, and their love and pride for the cidade maravilhosa is palpable during any conversation on the subject.
