on the west side of the
canal do bacalhau
there is the marambaia sandbank, with an extension of 42 kilometers, which is separated
from the mainland by the channel.
with the marambaia sandbank
is the
marambaia
island, which is not actually a fully
disconnect island but receives this title anyway,
home to some of the rarest ecosystems of the
atlantic forest (mata atlântica).
there are not many activities undertaken on the canal, or in the
region, however, yachting is one of the few pastimes found on
the canal, whilst it is also sometimes used as a shipping lane.
