with marine catfish being the most present in sepetiba's waters, nearly one hundred species of fish were catalogued in the bay - including specimen from the ariidae, gerreidae, sciaenidae, carangidae, and sparidae families.

one of the most charming aspects of the beaches and islands in the baía de sepetiba are the many fishermen boats, and the small and often improvised fish markets in the area.

there are two entrances to the bay via the ocean, one on the west side facing the ilha da marambaia, and one smaller one closer to the center of rio, in the neighborhood of barra de guaratiba.
