at a glance

the building that dominates the island, also popularly referred to as the 'castle', was built in the neo-gothic style known as gothic revival.

it was commissioned in the 19th century by brazilian emperor dom pedro ii (peter ii).

its palatial architecture is eye catching, it nearly covers the entire island and is brightly lit at night, making of this building one of the most visible reference points in the bay at all hours.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
