these islands are
part of some of the most
important and well preserved the mangrove covering of
metropolitan rio de janeiro.
to the west, in
the
marambaia island, there's also another important habitat, the 'restinga'.
the 'ilha do capăo' itself is a covered in
marshes and this kind of terrain is actually quite prevalent in
the western side of guaratiba, spreading between the
neighborhoods of
barra de guaratiba, to the south, and
pedra guaratiba, to the north.
