at a glance

the wild sea frequently cut their contact with land and sometimes they would even hold criminals in the island, political or otherwise, in order to keep them away from society.

it was still an important part of the defensive line defending guanabara and would receive some modernizations in the early 20th century.

the development of new weapons systems and the already considerable age of the fort itself would render it outdated by the end of the century.

this led to its deactivation in 1997 -although there was some talk concerning reactivating the fort, such thoughts were ruled out in the end.   arrow-back      arrow-forward
