at a glance

ilha pontuda is the tallest island and the farthest west of the tijucas - it faces the outlet of the joatinga canal in barra da tijuca.

it gets its name from the peak formed by its highest point, and on top of this peak there is a small lighthouse, measuring 3 meters in height, which when combined with the height of the island stands some 87 meters above sea level.
