at a glance

posto 5 is considered the most socially active stretch for foreign visitors, as many speak english here, making it easy to rent beach chairs and meeting people, and this is where the famous sand sculptures by ubiratan da conceição (called 'bira') have been photographed by countless tourists - sunrises in copacabana are simply beautiful, as the sun rises from behind the mountains of the bay.

the fishermen's colony at posto 6 is one of copacabana's most charming secrets - at this colony fishermen can be observed preparing their nets and boats, and fresh fish can be bought daily.

often defined as a poetic mixture of the city with the sea, copacabana has inspired dozens of songs from famous artists such as tom jobim, joão de barro, alberto ribeiro, nana caymmi, gilberto gil, alceu valença, maria bethânia, and jackson do pandeiro, and among others.    arrow-back      arrow-forward
