at a glance

a number of landmark events brought copacabana into prominence, most notably the building of the copacabana palace hotel, in 1923 - in its early years the neighborhood was characterized by mostly single-story homes, and over time it was further developed and expanded to become a symbol of glamour and wealth between the 1930s and 1950s.

copacabana became the city's hub of creativity and art, inspiring songs, books and paintings, and was even the birthplace of rio's most famous musical export - the bossa nova. arrow-back      arrow-forward
