at a glance

developments were made for a pipeline to direct water from what was then called the 'water rail' area to a water reserve known as the carioca aqueduct or 'arcos da lapa' (lapa's arches) that today is a famous local landmark - as a result of the developments, the river was almost completely covered, however some parts are still visible in the largo do boticário.

the entrance to the corcovado railway is in cosme velho - this is the train that climbs to 710 meters to the summit of the corcovado, where the statue of christ the redeemer is located, symbol of the city and one of the seven new wonders of the world with stunning panoramic views. arrow-back      arrow-forward
