Largo do Boticário, or 'Apothecary Square', is a small alleyway containing eight houses of neo-classical architectural design - The houses were first built in 1879 with materials recovered from the demolition of other buildings in the center of town and offer visitors a charming insight into architecture and habitation of the past.

The 'Boticário' name honors an early resident called major Joaquim da Silva Souto, who was a retired military man known for preparing ointments and syrups for a small apothecary.
