at a glance
every sunday, on largo do boiadeiro there is a fair of arts, crafts, and other products from the brazilian north-east, which offers an interesting alternative or complement to ipanema's famous sunday's hippie fair - among many other social and cultural events, every july rocinha now also has an annual gay pride parade.

the fórum de turismo da rocinha is an initiative promoting 'turismo comunitário'  in the neighborhood - 'turismo comunitário' (community tourism) is a model of tourism developed to confront the usual cons of regular tourism on poor areas, such as the expansion of a strictly comercial atmosphere and stagnation of local productivity, instead focusing on the values of the local culture, social sustentability and popular management.

the president of the organization ailton araújo talks about his life in the community and the project here.

mundo real is a website dedicated to fostering sustainable community development and posts news and updates concerning rocinha here. arrow-back      arrow-forward
