at a glance

glória was an aristocratic neighborhood at the end of the brazilian monarchy - before the opening of the tunnel to copacabana and people's attention shifting elsewhere, glória held significant power as a residential neighborhood of the landed elite.

glória was also the seat of clerical power, and was also the location for the templo da humanidade (temple of humanity), of the positivist church.

in 1929 glória received the construction of praça paris (paris square), in front of eduardo gomes park and the marina - designed by alfred agache, the praça was inspired by the plazas and gardens of the french belle époque.

the square features several large almond trees, sculptures, statues, and a reflecting pool, among other attractions - to this day, praça paris is a clear example of this particular style and architecture.    arrow-back      arrow-forward
