at a glance

ipanema is home to one of the most famous street parties to animate the city during carnival - the banda de ipanema has been parading along the beach in the company of thousands of revelers dressed up in all sort of costumes, dancing, and singing along.

last but not least, ipanema's signature black and white promenade is now rivaling copacabana's calçadão - appearing on t-shirts, objects, and souvenirs all over the city as one of the most popular souvenirs.

the avenue along the calçadão is closed to traffic on sudays and holidays, making of the sea side a car-free zone expanding the promenade and allowing bikers, skaters, street entertainers, vendors, and joggers to take full advantage of the beachfront.

on this link we posted some pictures taken during a day of high-tide in ipanema, with great waves crushing under a blue sky.          arrow-back      arrow-forward
