a particularly special attraction in lagoa, during the festive period, is the árvore de natal, or the floating christmas tree - an annual spectacle, the floating tree is over 85 meters tall, and is lit up with over 3 million lights, making it the largest floating christmas tree in the world.

the tree is unveiled ever year in early december, and continues to brighten up the neighborhood until early january.

lagoa's placid body of water, with a mirror-like surface, is used for great effect during the christmas celebrations, when the lights of the tree reflects in the lagoon with great beauty.
