partially inspired and funded by rio's new economic prosperity, the 'choque de ordem' program is a city hall's campaign aimed at cleaning and improving safety in rio de janeiro. another safety program particularl to lapa is 'lapa presente', an initiative that aims to aid  the public to enjoy a safe experience in lapa by patroling the area, monitoring and adressing anitsocial behavior, and assisting victims of crime. also very evident in lapa is the successful enforcement of the 'operação lei seca' (dry law) addressing drunk driving through several and stringent controls in many parts of the district.
