Casas Casadas or 'Married Houses', is one of the most iconic and representative buildings of the 19th Century in Rio, which now functions as a pioneering art and culture center. Located in Laranjeiras, the property is the only remnant of the kind of multi-family residence that preceded current conventional structures.

Built in 1883, the buildings were originally a set of six beautiful, residential units, designed in the neoclassical style. In 1994 they were registered as representative and important cultural heritage sites by the City Hall. The magnificent building is now home to Riofilme, an organization working tirelessly to revitalize national cinema through the production and distribution of Brazilian films.

riofilme has contributed to the construction of many new cinemas, and house a digitized collection of Brazilian audiovisual products on site.
Espaço Rio Carioca, 'Carioca Rio Space' is located next to casa casadas and contains a café, bar, bookstore and record shop. arrow-back      arrow-forward
