at a glance

In 1940 the park was handed over to the federal government and in 1943 it was the subject to the urbanization plan developed by Lucio Costa and Roberto Burle Marx - Costa designed a number of residential buildings to be built on the land, in an attempt to integrate the buildings into their natural surroundings, and display modern and 'Brazilian' architectural features.

The park is situated in a valley at the foot of Morro Nova Cintra, or 'Nova Cintra Hill', and is arranged in the shape of an amphitheatre. It contains a wealth of beautiful and charming features, such as a stream, ponds and gently rising slopes, as well as a large playground for children.

The gate to the park is guarded by two iconic statues of winged lions, which mark the threshold into a charming and tranquil space of great natural beauty.     arrow-back      arrow-forward
