at a glance

the neighborhood's Praça São Salvador, or 'Saint Salvador Square', is one of the most fashionable and vibrant places to visit in Rio on any night of the week - As night descends, the square slowly teems with people of all generations, gathering together to chat, laugh, share stories and enjoy one another's company, and at the heart of the big, open and unembellished expanse is a large fountain, around which people congregate.

Small stalls selling beer, soft drinks, caipirinhas, popcorn and other traditional set up throughout the square, offering the night's socialites and wanderers cheap and cheerful refreshments - The fresh air and ample space create a dynamic environment, where people can flit between groups, slipping between friends whilst making new ones all the time.

On most nights live music can be enjoyed here - whether samba, forró, chorinho, jazz, or the solitary acoustic guitar - groups gather around these often impromptu jams, to sing, dance, and immerse themselves in the rhythm of creativity.      arrow-back      arrow-forward
