The square is surrounded by a few typical carioca bars, which sell cold beer, snacks and meals, offering the ideal spot to settle and relax in the evening, whilst enjoying the buzz and vivacity of the eclectic Praça - The Square used to be a hot spot for crime and antisocial behaviour but was completely revitalized in the past decade, particularly as a product of the delightful music of Escola Portátil de Música, or 'Portable Music School', who performed in the space each Sunday morning in 2007.
