at a glance

decommissioned as a fort since 1965, it houses the centro de estudos de pessoal do exército brasileiro (study center of brazilian army staff) - the center provides officers with language and technical courses.

A pleasant and picturesque ecological trail leads to the Fort, ascending a cobblestone lane which passes through the magnificent trees and intriguing woodland creatures of the Atlantic Forest.

The short trail leading up to the Fort is a family favorite, because of the rich insight it provides into the military history of the city, as well as its pleasant natural scenery, fresh air and magnificent views.

The emblematic fort, poised atop Leme Mountain offers visitors a unique and privileged perspective of the city of Rio, in all its historical and scenic beauty.
