at a glance

when it opened its doors in 1936, originally intended as a hotel, it became known as one the most prestigious establishment of it's kind, at the time, matching the reputation of gems such as the copacabana palace - however, the hotel only offered 34 rooms, and the casino quickly became the main focus of the operation.

visitors from all over the world were enchanted by the view of guanabara bay from the numerous salons within. there was a theatre on site to provide entertainment of the highest order, such as bing crosby and carmen miranda, who had a weekly residence at the casino until 1940 - french cuisine was served to guests on opulent silver and crystal ware, allowing the high society of rio de janeiro, and international celebrities, such as walt disney, to celebrate in style.

the casino catered for particularly wealthy guests in its VIP room, offering additional services such as valet parking and a boat service, which allowed esteemed guests to travel across the bay to the casino icarai in niterói any time they pleased. arrow-back      arrow-forward
